I finally saw the new Pirates movie. Endlessly visually imaginative - I remember thinking around the 1/3rd mark 'I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to see next, and I like that' - and a sprawling plot that mostly gets wrapped up. Mostly.

It is, however, roughly seventy thousand years long. The special effects credits alone lasted longer than the Pyramids.

I was absolutely convinced that the Pirate Council was going to rebind Calypso into Elizabeth, which would have given her the immortality she needed to be with Will the Flying Dutchman, and also dealt with the problem of the wild sea goddess with a grudge against pirates. It was even foreshadowed by Captain Yun Fat. Oh well.
