As an addendum to the last post

A thread on rpg.net from a while back, wherein Denis Detwiller of Pagan talks about Delta Green.

That's the flipside; the rpg industry (insert quotes if you want) doesn't fully reward effort and passion. There's a definite cut-off point beyond which extra labour becomes pointless. The trick is finding that sweet spot where you put in enough effort to make a superlative book, but don't waste your time on something that's going to be chewed up and forgotten about a few years down the line.

Ok I can't find the Denis Detwiller bit but DG is by far and away my favourite game, the only rpg book I've ever read cover to cover and I'm rereading countdown at the moment as I'm about to start a Delta Green campaign. It kicks so much ass. It's very sad if it doeswn't get the respect it deserves.

May be a controversial statement but for me it solves all the problems with the structure of CoC

Oh, DG certainly gets the respect it deserves, and is one of the best rpg products ever. I love it too (and wish I could find my copies). The thread talks about how the game never really made money and got screwed around with licences and contracts. You've got a load of fans screaming 'give us more delta green', and Denis is replying saying 'John's moved on, I've moved on, Scott's kinda moved on, it's not going to happen, it's not worth the heartache'.

He seemed to be saying that he has more material lying around and would quite like to do more with it, but isn't going to put any more time or effort into it unless there's a guaranteed decent level of payment involved, and that's vanishingly unlikely, substantially because of Chaosium wanting a lot of money for licensing the BRP system (which makes pdf products untenable).
